So much of attention is focusing on negative emotions in these tough times. Positive psychology looks at how people not only survive but even thrive under adverse conditions. How many times have you asked, "How does he or she do it?" when someone just keeps on going like the Ever Ready Bunny.
I'm going to the First World Congress on Positive Psychology in Philadelphia this summer as a student. America is playing catch up with the world in this area. Australia is even creating schools where kids are raised with the positive skills that research shows will make them happier people. As adults we may have to play catch up as well. I'm trying, for myself, and trying to spread the word for others.
This Sunday Dr. Julie Helmrich is going to talk about the condition called Flourishing and the mental processes and behaviors that contribute to developing it. My husband and I are going. Hope to see you at Plymouth Church 2717 E. Hampshire 2 blocks east of UWM from 2 - 4 It's about being happier.
