My week in TV.
This is a review of my week watching TV.I can only write about the things I watched, for insight into future programs you'll have to go to the experts, cause I ain't one.
Everybody has talked about the Superbowl,so I will be brief,a quote from the late Freddie Mercury,"We are the Champions of the World."
One night,I couldn't sleep,I was up at like 3am,on Comedy Central I saw this comedian named Dov Davidoff doing a stand up act called "Filthy Operation".I know it's a pretty old show, but it was still funny stuff and alot better than info-mericals at 3am.
I quit watching ABC's "V" weeks ago, this show barely held me through the first season,I stayed on for the start of this season,I'm sorry,I love sci-fi but this show stinks to high heaven.I beg ABC,please hit the cancel button, just eat your losses.
Speaking of eating your losses,I have been a big fan of FOX's show "House" but last season pretty much turned me off and this season,I mean, come on,Candice Bergen? Really? All FOX needs to do at this point is put House on his motorcycle and send him toward a jump ramp over a shark tank.
While I am ripping on FOX I might as well add in that I will not be watching "Fringe" on Friday night. The story line ran out long ago for "Fringe",the writing is terrible, the acting is amateurish and when sci-fi becomes predictable it's done,so in honor of FOX,Friday and "Fringe",I give it a F.
The only reason I even to bother to watch ABC is for the seasonal Charlie Brown cartoon specials that remind me of my childhood.I still think the Charlie Brown Halloween and Christmas specials are probably the best TV programing of the last 50 years, and they sure as heck are not P.C..
Why anybody pays real dollars, actual money,to advertise on "Grey's Anatomy","Private Practice", or "Brother's and Sisters" is totally beyond me.Do you know that watching 3 hours of Glenn Beck's TV show on FOX news would rot my brain any more than those 3 shows do?
I should not leave out the other broadcast networks,CBS and NBC,but I honestly can't name a single decent primetime TV show on either of those networks,so I guess if I can't say anything good I should just let them alone.
But,I can't let them alone, the only show worse than "30 Rock" is "Two and a Half Men".You want a funny show? Take a 30 pound rock, drop it on the half man's fat foot and see how loud he screams, that would be about as funny as ABC's "Modern Family".ERRRRRRRRRR,thats the sound of a bomb falling.
Hopefully that bomb will land on NBC's "Parks and Rec".
My winner in local news this week is WISN-12.Channel 12 is way above all the rest, they put forth a professional news operation that is well produced. No frills or gimicks, just the news. The others are just goofing around or trying to wing it.
WTMJ-4 trys hard but they just don't get it.I'll give another F here, the Fish is not funny,he's annoying. When did WTMJ-4 become CNN? Do they have 18 hours of news programming per day? That morning show with Kathy Lee Gifford on it pretending to be drunk, when she does that "wink" thing,I really want to throw a brick through the TV,but the other old ladies at the laundromat might get upset.I will admit,WTMJ has that old lady laundromat demographic locked up.If I drank the "Morning Blend" I would barf on myself. That afternoon show,my god, thats horrible,I mean,Jeff Wagner's radio show is bad enough, put on "Judge Judy" or something, anything,an hour of static would be better.
Also, does WTMJ get a tax write off for having senior citizens as newscasters? They do have a "Mummies of the World contest",is that to choose who replaces Carole Meekins or Mike Jacobs?
WDJT-58,they don't even have news do they?I don't even know who is on 58 news,Oh yeah,all that first 10 minutes crap,that 10 minutes is a waste.Even channel 58's website sucks.
WITI-6,well all I can say is this,I watch channel 6 news for the same reason people watch train wrecks,to see damage.Ted Perry, just sit on it,nobody cares, your yuck.Katrina "Gravy",double yuck, yuck.Vince Condella, triple yuck, yuck, yuck and Jen Lada, super barf that smells bad.
A little advice Jen,no matter how hard you try to act like a "homegirl" no NBA,MLB or NFL player is ever going to ask you out, just give it up,fix your hair right and be professional about your job,it will serve you better later in life.
My 'ole man wanted to watch this movie "Death Race" on FX.Sometimes I have to yield and allow him to watch things that I may not like. The only reason I bring this up is that the movie was edited for language. They changed the word "MF'er" to "monkey lover".Ummmm, draw your own conclusions on that.I started a terrible thing where all my friends are texting each other saying,"Your my monkey lover".The movie was gawd awful,it hurt to watch it,it made me feel stupid.
On TCM,I watched "Kramer vs.Kramer",it has been probably 10 years since I had watched this classic but WOW is it still good.My 'ole man said,"Are you going to watch this?" I said "Yes." He got up and went into the bedroom.I said,"Hey,I sat through that piece of crap Death Race!"
I watch alot of cable shows like History Channel's "American Pickers" and Discovery Channel's "Auction Kings".I seem to be addicted to HGTV.I'll be watching the new season of "Selling New York" tonight. You can always dream.
Most nights around 11pm,me and my 'ole man can agree on watching the Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" programing. The new season of "Robot Chicken" has started and I just love "Aqua Teen Hunger Force".Tonight is Chris Elliott's new show "Eagleheart" and who couldn't love "Children's Hospital".If your a swimmer, then you get it.
I leave it to PBS to once again save my sanity.I watched an episode of "NOVA" about IBM building a supercomputer named Watson to compete on "Jeopardy" and their struggles to make a computer think like a human.I'm not a computer geek by any measure but I found it interesting.I also thought it was funny that alot of the IBM programmers were using Apple laptops.
"Masterpiece Theater" had a biography on Alistair Cooke.I only remember him when I was kid and he introduced "Masterpiece Theater" but he had a quite interesting life.He was sort of a wild man by the standards of the time.It was a very good program.I would put this as being the best show I watched this week.
Well,that's my week in television.
