I am a man active in volunteering in Milwaukee. One of the biggest thing I have noticed is the disparity in men versus women participating in philanthropy. I realized aprt of the deal is that the majority of events are geared towards women's imnterests and families (walks, wine tasting, fashion shows) and only a few towards or inclusive of men's interests (beer tasting, golf and other sports outings, chili cook-offs).

I would like to start a new group in Milwaukee that helps foster opportunities for men to get involved, and also just talk about being better men in general - beign gentlemen. I fealzie par tof the issue is the concept of time needed to help an organization which usually means joining a committee or even board for endless meetings. But I think these groups could use our talents more like freelance work - give the details of what is needed and let them do the work for you. Need a press release - I know someone thatcan do it in a few minutes; need taxes done, I know a CPA. etc.

My blog is just the start. There I list male-oriented events, talk about men doing good things, and about being a good man in general.

My 2 next steps are to get men invovled. First is by organizing meetups at bars for non-profits to get in front of men and let them know what opportunities are avaialble. Second is to find men interested in providing their talents to organizations and create a sort freelance placement program.
