What to See at the MKE Film Fest - Sunday - 9/25

3871-giveuptomorrowmain

Each day of the Milwaukee Film Festival, I'm going to have a recommendation for something people should see. I know there are an aimless bunch of you who want to attend the fest, but still don't have everything pegged down as far as what you're going to see. This is for you.

Look for my recommendations a day prior to when they play. So, here's what you should see tomorrow - 9/25:

Give Up Tomorrow (official description):

"When a teenager from a political family in the Philippines is accused of a double murder, the country's entire judicial system is put to the test after years of alleged corruption."

This Audience Award winner from the Tribeca Film Festival follows the tumultuous story of Paco Larrañaga, who, at the age of 19, was charged with committing a heinous crime on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. However, all evidence points to him being on an entirely different island on the night in question.

As more of the story unfolds, national corruption, frenzied media headhunters, political maneuvering and laziness are exposed as culprits in this grave injustice which still continues today. This powerful film might be one of the most upsetting documentaries I've ever seen, but it's also one of the best.
