UFC 144: Pettis Thrills with Knockout Over Lauzon, Positions Himself for Rematch with Champ Henderson

Last night at UFC 144 in Saitama, Japan, Anthony "Showtime" Pettis displayed why he is one of the most electrifying fighters on the planet and may have earned himself a shot at newly crowned champion Benson Henderson.

Pettis, who unleashed a brutal headkick and knocked out fellow title contender Joe Lauzon in just 81-seconds, may have impressed UFC head honcho Dana White enough to warrant himself a rematch with Henderson and the next shot at the UFC title.

In a career filled with highlight reel moments, "Showtime" displayed his best performance during his time in the UFC by earning the "Knockout of the Night" honors with his stoppage of Lauzon.

After the fight ended, Pettis signified that he deserved the next crack at the 155-pound strap. And apparently White agrees, hinting that one of the most anticipated rematches in MMA history may be just around the corner.

"I think he's going to get it," White told the media after the UFC wrapped up its first trip into Japan in over a decade.

For fans across the country, another bout between Pettis and the reigning champion Henderson would be one of the most exciting title matchups in recent memory. The two put on an amazing display at the first meeting back in 2010 before Pettis capped off the night with his sensational wall-walk kick.

After a rocky start to begin his career within the UFC, Pettis has since emerged as one of the lightweight divisions most capable and exciting competitors. Pettis vs. Henderson II makes more sense than an immediate rematch between Henderson and former champ Frankie Edgar and should be a huge draw.
