Blue Moon Blueprint

Saturday September 1st, 2012 – Fox Lake, IL

Not that anyone else but me actually cares, but I have made a decision. I have decided to throw everything I have into the service of human kind, and follow what my inner voice tells me to do. I’ve basically always done that, but there have been a lot of distractions along the way to take me away from focusing on the goal with everything I’ve got. That has to stop, and today is the day.

All I care about is being of service to others. That’s all that truly matters in my opinion, and the best way I can reach the most people is with my comedy. That might be live on stage or it might be radio or TV, but I truly believe I was given a gift and I have to find a way to keep giving back by continuing to perform, teach and do whatever it takes to make the best of the hand I was dealt.

Two emails I got today really drove that point home. One was from the guy in New Hampshire I sent a CD to earlier in the week. He wrote me a wonderful note telling me how much he liked it and how he was going to bring all of his family and friends to come see me if I ever made it out that way. It was very flattering, and I have actually been getting quite a few of those as of late.

The other one came from some spineless wank that created an entire email address just to send me a response to the post I made a couple of days ago about the passings of Wild Bill Bauer and Byron Beck. The name used on the account was something like ‘fuzzyturdpants@gmail.com’ or some other obviously made up moniker. The note said “Maybe you’re next.” Right! Maybe I am.

I don’t have a problem with someone writing it because it’s true – not just for me, but everyone on this planet. Nobody knows when it will all be over, and that has never been as apparent as the last few days. What I have a giant problem with is not having the prunes to sign one’s real name.

It sure is easy to fire pussy bullets from the rafters under an assumed name. I may have made a ton of mistakes in life, but at least I signed my name to them all. My life is an open book, and my opinions and mistakes are out there for public opinion, consumption or rejection. That takes guts.

I’m sure the insect that went through all that trouble to create an account just to send me what he thought was a major insult felt pretty swell about his ‘scathing remark’. Yawn. It’s actually on target, and I’m going to use that and the other email I received to fuel my fire to keep fighting.

We’re all living on borrowed time, and I’m going to quit farting around and actually hope to do something rather than just talk about it. There is a need for laughter and comedy today like never before in history. I have been given that gift, and even though not everyone likes me personally or finds me funny, there are more than enough that do who need to find out who the hell I am.

Do I need management? Maybe. Do I need a break? Absolutely. I’ve spent a lifetime getting to know how to get laughs on a stage. I should be working every single week in top flight venues to make that happen. Personal feelings aside, I can do the job. Like the United Negro College Fund likes to say, “All I ever needed was a chance.” On this blue moon Saturday, I’m ready to launch.
