Stay a Smoke Free Mom & Celebrate a Very Special November!
We've all heard about the dangers of cigarette smoking and second-hand smoke. We know that both can cause lung cancer and other health related concerns. Armed with that information, many people want to quit smoking, but are unable to kick the habit. Well, here's yet another reason to quit: if you can't quit smoking for your own sake, how about quitting for the sake of the baby you bring into this world?
November is Premature Awareness Month, and the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention & Poverty Network, is urging expectant mothers and family members who smoke in the household, to put out the cigarettes. One of the risk factors of delivering babies prematurely is cigarette smoke! Given a choice between quitting smoking and a child's life, most moms will put baby's health before their own.
With one in eight babies in the United States born prematurely each year, expectant parents have an obligation to do everything in their power to bring healthy babies into this world. Making sure mom isn't smoking or being exposed to cigarette smoke, increases the likelihood of delivering a healthy baby.
You have the information, now it's your move. As the mother of an infant who was born premature, I urge you to care
enough to quit.
