Have we learned nothing from the Simpsons
Here, I like the rest of Milwaukee, had believed that this need to have a monorail, I mean, electric street car, had fallen along the way side, but apparently, we were wrong. Apparently, those in the know in this great city of ours, have never seen the monorail episode of the Simpsons. In the monorail episode, the town finds itself with money that they dont know what to do with, and people raise good points on which the money could be spent. The crowd mentions more police and firemen, as well as additional investment in public schools, and yet, a charlatan comes in and convinces them that this is what they need, playing on their damaged sense of self worth, telling them that the idea might be better for some other city. So they jump on it and hilarity happens.
The problem with this, is that the Simpsons are a tv show and what happens in Milwaukee is real life. We do not need a monorail, electric streetcar, a magic bus, a great space coaster, or what ever else someone thinks that we need to have in our city. Milwaukee takes a beating, whether its concerning our unwillingness to change, or our ever failing school system, or the fact that our Governor took on a recall election and won, so why should we set ourselves up for another one? Unless we enjoy being a laughed at and looked down upon by the rest of the country. Hey, Homer looked into the screen once and said "in your face Milwaukee,: so what would stop him from doing it again?
