Dr. Charles Smith: The Ties That Bind

Jan. 2, 2013 - Feb. 17, 2013

Dr. Charles Smith has made a life’s work of celebrating Africans and African-Americans. Using the detritus of his own neighborhood in Aurora, Ill., he created a sprawling outdoor memorial consisting of hundreds of concrete figures chronicling the struggles and victories that comprise African-American history and culture. The exhibition presents 212 works included in that art environment from its collection.

Venue Description:
One of the area's finest art museums and, sadly, a fairly well-kept secret. The museum features cutting-edge exhibitions in an airy, post-modern building and a century-old mansion in downtown Sheboygan. An ambitious performance schedule keeps things lively. ARTCafe serves beverages and exceptional sandwiches.
