Levi Fisher Ames: Animals Wild and Tame
Jan. 2, 2013 - Feb. 24, 2013
In the years following the Civil War, Levi Fisher Ames created a shadow-box menagerie of over 600 animal carvings that interwove zoology, history and folklore. This exhibition offers viewers a selection of the self-taught artist’s works -- known in Ames’ day as “The Grand Museum of Art and Natural History, Whittled Out of Wood” -- drawn from the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s collection.

Venue Description:
One of the area's finest art museums and, sadly, a fairly well-kept secret. The museum features cutting-edge exhibitions in an airy, post-modern building and a century-old mansion in downtown Sheboygan. An ambitious performance schedule keeps things lively. ARTCafe serves beverages and exceptional sandwiches.
