How do I add/delete/modify Bands?

We have designed our band section to help local musicians promote themselves. You can make your gigs, music and news available to everyone that visits OnMilwaukee.com

Use the information below to learn how to upload music and pictures, give your band a profile and provide useful information to your future fans.

What's an MP3?

Simply put, MP3 is a compression technique that allows you to upload, download and listen to music from a web site. Unlike earlier compression formats, MP3 sound great -- sometimes they are virtually indistinguishable from an original CD. Because of this, many in the music industry have raised fears about piracy issues with MP3s. Most artist realize, however, that at a typical size of three megabytes per song, a typical user would have to spend several hours to download a pirated CD. They sound great, and they are easy to use and distribute, but most in the industry believe that this new format will only help unsigned musicians get the word out.

How minutes of music can I put in an MP3?

It depends on the compression. Typically, a three minute song takes up about three megabytes. At a lower quality, you can squeeze more music in per megabyte.

Why the 10 megabyte limit?

Most of our users don't have the time to download that large of a file. A 10 megabyte file would take several hours to download on an average 56k modem. The smaller the better.

Why does it take so long upload?

You may not have a very fast connection to the Internet, and a typical MP3 may take a half and hour or more to upload. Be patient; it's worth it.

Is my computer hanging or frozen?

Probably not. But since it can take a while to upload, and there's really no way to track your progress, sit back, have a cup of coffee, and check back in a little while. We'll let you know when it's complete.

Is there a better way to send my MP3s or photos?

Sure. You can always mail them or drop them off to OnMilwaukee.com. Our mailing address is 1930 E. North Ave., 2nd Floor, Milwaukee, WI 53202. Swing by and say hello. We love free CDs.

How do I know you got it?

If you e-mail the MP3 or upload it, you'll get a confirmation. If you drop it off, we'll probably say "Thanks," and listen to the CD that afternoon when we should be working.

How come my band isn't showing up the search?

Each band must be activated by the OnMilwaukee.com staff. Generally, we get to activating bands within 24 hours.

Can anyone listen to my MP3?

Anyone with a sound card, speakers and an MP3 player can. That's about all you need.

Can they steal it?

Depends on your definition of steal. Once they download your MP3, they can do just about anything they want to. That's why you should just upload one or two songs. Give your fans a taste of your music, then let them buy the CD to listen to the rest.

Can I upload more than one MP3?

Sure. Bring 'em on!

How do I submit gigs and shows?

Click here. We'll put it in our calendar ASAP.

Am I already in your system?

Maybe. If you entered your band in the last few months, then yes. Visit onmilwaukee.com/settings, sign in and check. Our system will match your e-mail to the band info you have already entered, and then you can edit, upload and delete to your heart's content.

Why does the photo have to fit into 150 x 150 pixels? Will it change?

That way, everyone's photo fits into our layout. Eventually, we may offer additional dimensions to choose from.
