Scouting report: Brookfield Family Restaurant
Located in the Harvard Square strip mall at roughly 180th Street and Bluemound Road, the Brookfield Family Restaurant -- opened in March -- has offerings that will please just about any palate. Breakfast, served all day, is a specialty but sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and other entrees make it worth visiting at any time.

Vaughan reissue marks a tragic anniversary
Friday marks the 20th anniversary of the death of blues guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, who was killed in a helicopter crash after performing a legendary show with Eric Clapton and Robert Cray at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy. In commemoration, Sony Legacy Records is reissuing Vaughan's 1984 breakthrough album, "Couldn't Stand the Weather."

So, what did you do this summer? Brookfield native Ashley Kumlien will have an amazing story to tell when she completes her cross country run late next month in New York City. Kumlien, 26, has been running across the country since April in an effort to raise money for multiple sclerosis research.

Carleton Grange Pub, an oasis for fans of soccer and British pub atmosphere in St Francis, is closing for good Sept. 6. Eric Ellsworth, owner of the 5-year-old club at 3807 S. Packard Ave., cited road construction and parking problems in announcing the decision in an e-mail and on the bar's Web site.

Saturday Scorecard: Is the preseason necessary?
The Packers play their second exhibition game tonight in Seattle. Two-a-day practices have ended and, for all practical intents, training camp is pretty much over. The NFL is considering moving to an 18-game regular season and cutting the preseason to two games. Based on what's happening this month, that seems like a good idea.

As shocking as it was to see Tiger Woods hack his way to a brutal, career-worst 18-over-par finish last week at the Bridgestone Invitational, it was equally stunning to see what happened in the first round of the PGA Championship Friday at Whistling Straits.
