Five years ago Pat Moore and Peg Karpfinger started work on an idea for a new Riverwest cafe. Their hard work finally paid off when centro café, 808 E. Center St., opened its doors last Thursday.

Finally, on June 18 -- after almost five years of construction -- Peg Karpfinger and her husband and business partner, Patrick Moore, opened Centro Café, 808 E. Center St. So far, business is booming for the Riverwest Italian eatery.

Cafe Corazón pumps new life into NoLo
After more than a year of buzz, Cafe Corazón quietly opened last weekend. Currently, only the bar is operating, but at the end of the month, George and Wendy Mireles -- who own the cafe with John Kelly -- say they will serve food, too. Corazón offers quality, affordable food to the north end of Riverwest, referred to as "NoLo" (North of Locust).

Milwaukee's best new restaurant, 2009: Honeypie
Opening in May 2009, Honeypie Café re-claimed the Bay View space formerly occupied by Annona Bistro. The home-style eatery is a joint effort by restaurateurs Scott Johnson, Leslie Montemurro and Adam and Val Luck.
