Wisconsin Historical Society's exhibit brings events to Central Library
Much like a traveling tent show, the Wisconsin Historical Society is moving its new exhibition around the state and this month it's in Milwaukee. "The Wisconsin History Tour: Sharing Wisconsin's Stories One Community at a Time" is on view on the first floor of the Central Milwaukee Public Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., through Jan. 29.

New motorcycle festival revs up in spring
Rockerbox moved to Road America in Elkhart Lake after being in Riverwest for a decade. So now get ready for the first Brewtown Rumble. The street festival will feature bikes, music, food, drinks, a swap meet, custom bike contest, vending, a pin-up girl contest and more. It take place on Sunday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Best Place.

In 1901, Riverwest residents battled on the frozen Milwaukee River
In the winter between 1900 and 1901, a pitched battle erupted on the frozen Milwaukee River above the North Avenue dam between enraged ice harvesters and the equally violent crew of a steam-powered launch. The newspapers called it "The Ice War." On a section of river that has witnessed many strange things over the years, the ice war was perhaps the strangest.
