Geenen recounts struggle for civil rights on the South Side
In his books, community activist and author Paul Geenen has homed in on important, hyper local subjects, like the heyday of the Bronzeville neighborhood, the diversity of Sherman Park and the story of Gimbels and Schuster's department stores. His latest book for The History Press, "Civil Rights Activism in Milwaukee: South Side Struggles in the `60s and `70s," is the result of a special request.

The strike at Palermo's Pizza isn't really good for anybody. It causes some personal pain for Palermo executives but sales haven't been hurt at all. The people on strike are no closer to their goal of voting on a union than they were before the strike.

Whether or not to boycott Palermo's Pizza has divided a lot of people in the city, and including members at Outpost Natural Foods. Outpost began selling organic varieties of Palermo's pizza about two years ago and decided to continue selling the products after the workers went on strike in June.

People's Books is moving
People's Books Cooperative started moving today from its East Side location to Riverwest today and will open in July. The independent bookstore cooperative is leaving its current location, 2122 E. Locust St., and moving to 804 E. Center St. in the former Tool Shed space.
