When The Mike Benign Compulsion took the stage at Turner Hall on Saturday night, the four veteran musicians knew that one of their heroes - REM's Mike Mills - was in the house. The band was opening for The Baseball Project supergroup that - for the tour at least - includes Mills.

The Mike Benign Compulsion started as a solo project and grew into a band. "Rollicking Musical," the group's debut CD, is launched with a party gig on Friday, May 14, at Shank Hall. The non-smoking show starts at 8 p.m.

When local musician Scott Wooldridge left town for Minneapolis in 1998, his brother Brian stayed here. And although the Wooldridge Brothers kept writing, recording and gigging, things definitely slowed down a bit for the band. Now, the duo releases, "Days Went Around," its first studio disc in 10 years.
