Places like Nessun Dorma, Burnhearts or the Nomad ensure an adventurous escape on nights when there isn't anything in particular in the works. But during the summer, so much is going on in Milwaukee every night of the week, it's almost impossible not to consider the long list of choices for your Friday and Saturday night.

Gig roundup: Kings bring forth long-awaited debut
Milwaukee neo-soul band Kings Go Forth has really been living up to its name, nabbing awards at home and gaining notice abroad, earning label interest and garnering spots on compilations in Italy and Japan. Now, as the band prepares to release of its self-titled full-length LP, it celebrates with an 8 p.m. show at Turner Hall Ballroom on Friday, July 24.

On the town in Milwaukee: How diverse is your nightlife?
It was a conversation sparked by McBob's Bar and Grill. If you've never been, McBob's is part Irish tavern, part sports bar but mainly a local joint drawing a hefty portion of the surrounding Washington Heights neighborhood. They serve heaping mounds of corned beef, Irish beers on tap plus great deals on giant tacos.

Blowtorch's "Salt Water" sears with fiery bass
Eric Blowtorch has been rocking the Milwaukee crowd as a musician and DJ for nearly 30 years, playing punk, post-punk, ska, soul, reggae and more. As he hones the tracks for his latest full-length record on Milwaukee's South Side, he issues his best work to date. "Salt Water" is a hard-hitting reggae track with a deep, heavy bass sound and just about the best reggae mix Brew City has ever unleashed.

Club Timbuktu serves West African dishes just west of the river
Approaching a fourth anniversary in Riverwest, Club Timbuktu has successfully established itself as a bar, dance club, restaurant, even a community center. But most importantly, Club Timbuktu is assuredly a reflection of co-owners Omar Gagale and Youssouf Komara's West African roots.
