Last May I informed you about a benefit show for Codebreaker's Steven Hawley, who had suddenly gotten sick and was dealing with crushing medical bills due to having no insurance. Friends who are tired of seeing their friend suffer physical, emotional and financial pain while just trying to figure out whatever is ailing him have once again put together a benefit show to raise money for Hawley's rising medical costs as he seeks to have several expensive tests and procedures done.

Milwaukee UP: Kid Millions is back

Kid Millions really IS a victim to the beat and he is back with a new infectious Sage Schwarm-produced track called "Higher Ground." The new song gives you exactly the same vibe as his lovable track "Victim To The Beat" did, though it's not as robust. Millions and Schwarm, who is part of Codebreaker, certainly sound like they are made for each musically.

One of the downsides of the Milwaukee music community is that it is often in its own bubble, typically not by the choice of the artists. One of the positives of this is the fact that the music community is a close-knit family of artists that more often than not care about each other as people, and not just as musicians.

Codebreaker meets Sybil on a bridge over "Troubled Water"

Connections are key for bands and no one knows that better than Milwaukee's own Codebreaker, which has a number of great collaborations to its credit. The latest, a remix of "Troubled Water" by legendary deep soul diva Sybil -- her self-titled 1989 disc with covers of "Walk On By" and "Don't Make Me Over" was one of my favorites that year -- is the result of happenstance.
