Honeypie shows promise
There is much to like about Honeypie, 2643 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., the Bay View restaurant owned and operated by the same folks that have done great things with Comet Cafe, Palomino and Fuel. But while Honeypie's atmosphere and menu are pleasing, there are still some kinks that need to be worked out.

Local restaurants treasure the artichoke
If ever a vegetable were to have a cult-like following, it would be the artichoke. It's true: lovers of this big thistle plant are emphatic about it, whether the "heart" is chopped and served on pizza and in hot dips or the entire plant is hard boiled and devoured. Milwaukee's best use of local food, 2009: Roots
Roots Restaurant and Cellar was one of Milwaukee's first dining destinations to actively pursue the use of local ingredients. Using only naturally raised meats and fresh seafood from the start, they've evolved to mainly use produce grown in Wisconsin, too.

Oh, Honeypie
After months of working hard to rehab the former Annona Bistro space at 2643 S. Kinnickinic Ave., restaurateur Scott Johnson (Fuel Café, Comet Café, Balzac, Palomino, Hi Hat Garage) says he and his business partners -- Leslie Montemurro, and Adam and Val Lucks of Comet -- are almost ready to unveil the goods.
