Koudounaris explores how different cultures honor the dead

Photographer, writer and historian Paul Koudounaris says he has always gravitated towards macabre art history. His most recent photography book, "Memento Mori: The Dead Among Us," is proof of this fascination. Koudounaris comes to Milwaukee Friday, May 1 to present a free lecture and slide presentation at the Walker's Point Center for the Arts.


Goodbye, Mr. Morris

Last Friday, I went to the funeral of the 30-year-old man who was killed in the April 8 hit-and-run accident at 29th and Locust in Milwaukee. The name of the one man who was killed was Orienthian Lee Morris, Sr. He was the father of two kindergarteners at our school, one of whom is my student.
