Kings Go Forth played Austin's "South by Southwest" festival earlier this spring just before releasing "The Outsiders Are Back," the band's first LP on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. In the wake of these two showings plus a night at New York's Mercury Lounge, the 10 piece soul contingent is finally getting a taste of national hype well beyond the Midwestern region.

Ill Groove Movement's style is so wholly its own it had to coin an original phrase simply to describe it. They call it "organic hip-hop," a sound that's infused with splashes of old-school jazz, funk and rock, mixed with hip-hop rhymes and beats.

Friday nights at the bSide are marked by DJs Why B and Kid Cut Up's innovative mixes. "I have no problem playing commercial music," says Cut Up, but both adhere to the idea that hip-hop is "more about how you play than what you play."
