Milwaukee's PGA tournament closed its clubhouse in 2009 after decades as a second-rate tour stop and a few years as a third-rate event. There were no stars stopping in Milwaukee. Attendance was almost non-existent. But, I am convinced that Milwaukee could stage a LPGA Tour even that would be one of the best and biggest on the women's tour.

It's time that the PGA Tour returns to Wisconsin. Can't be done, you say? Then explain to me how the Quad-Cities, a metro market less than a quarter the size of Milwaukee, can sustain a PGA tournament.

Madison native Steve Stricker attempts to make history this week in Illinois by winning the John Deere Classic for the fourth consecutive time. Trying to spoil the part however will be fellow Madison resident Jerry Kelly and Menomonee Falls native Mark Wilson, who has already won on the PGA Tour this year.
