Finding fish - and more - at The Eatery on Farwell

Published Nov. 12, 2012

The kitchen at The Eatery on Farwell, 2014 N. Farwell Ave., has such long hours that it can really boast something for almost everyone, and at almost any time of day. The restaurant opens at 8 a.m. and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stopped in on a Friday, of course, so I could try the fish fry.

Port of Call shows its hometown pride

Published Nov. 7, 2012

If Byron Kilbourn is going to watch me eat lunch, I wish he'd at least try to look a little happier. Amid the maritime decor adorning the interior of Port of Call Bistro and Beer Garden, 106 W. Wells St., hangs a stern portrait of Kilbourn, who founded his Kilbourntown west of the river. His face reminds us we're in HIS Milwaukee and the menu at Port of Call keeps reminding diners they're in Brew City, too.

I had the opportunity to do just that as I joined part of the crew of OnMilwaukee.com for a retreat luncheon at the Rumpus Room last week.

Lunch with Molly Cool's

Published Aug. 27, 2012

Molly Cool's Seafood Tavern has settled in nicely in the sprawling riverfront restaurant space at 1110 N. Old World 3rd St. that had briefly been home to Kincaid's and was long the site of Third Street Pier. Recently, I lunched on the patio.

Does this sound like the perfect entrée? Then you are welcome at my house any Wednesday for lunch. This is the day when I try my hand at having twins. In real life (six days out of seven), I have two boys and they are generously spaced apart by six years. On Wednesdays, I welcome my neph...

Red Flag Lunch

Wednesday April 2nd, 2008 - St. Ignace, MIIt’s the end of the world as we know it. Time to panic. Standup comedy is DEAD. Well, at least at the level I’ve been doing it all these years. I feel like a cockroach in the kitchen when the light comes on. RUN! I saw it with my own eyes toda...
