The Milwaukee Public Library's Board of Trustees has green-lighted discussions between the library and the Grohmann Museum, 1000 N. Broadway, at Milwaukee School of Engineering, that could bring $1 million to MPL in exchange for loaning Carl Spitzweg's painting, "The Bookworm," to the museum.

Today, The Milwaukee Public Library announced the commission award for a public art installation outside the new East Branch, currently under construction. Milwaukee multimedia artist Ray Chi has been selected to create the art project on North Cramer Street and East North Avenue that will reflect the ideas of community, literature, storytelling and learning.

Milwaukee has a rich history and, fortunately, a passion for preserving it, too. Take, for example the Wisconsin Architectural Archive, housed at the Milwaukee Public Library. Founded in 1975 by Thomas L. Eschweiler - yes, of THAT Eschweiler family - and a few others, the collection, housed within the Central Library's Art & Music department, archives more than 20,000 architectural drawings by nearly 500 Wisconsin architects.
