Milwaukee Public Schools high school social studies teacher Chip Johnston used CrossFit to get back in shape after graduate school. Now, he's built the district's first CrossFit affiliate program on the lower level of MacDowell Montessori. The core strength and conditioning program is open to MPS students and staff.

Prospective parents, prospective teachers, current Montessori families, the media and community members who want to learn more are invited to take a look as MPS - which operates the largest collection of public Montessori schools in the U.S. - hosts a Montessori Summit on Saturday, Oct. 6. Today, I visited the former Juneau High School on 64th and Mount Vernon (sorta midway between Maxie's Southern Comfort and Balistreri's Bluemound Inn, for you dining fans out there), and got a tour from the K3-12 school's principal Andrea Corona. I was surprised to hear that there are still seats available, just a week before the first day of school.

MPS is making Montessori education public; accessible to everyone. MPS has been offering Montessori education since the mid-1970s. We are expanding this year by growing MacDowell at Juneau Campus and opening a new school in the old Tippecanoe building.

News that the Tippecanoe School building on Howard and Whitnall Avenues on the South Side is being proposed as the home to a new primary-age Montessori program, to help alleviate the strain on the Fernwood Montessori waiting list, is exciting.
