Yesterday 88Nine Radio Milwaukee went live with their nominations for their fifth annual "Best Of" awards, and this year sees continued growth and recognition of the Milwaukee hip-hop community.

Hip-hop in Milwaukee has been going on for decades and though many local hip-hop artists haven't had a large amount of extended success - commercially speaking - the quality of what's been produced is equal to that of cities that have found a way to fare better in the industry. As a long-time contributor to the Milwaukee hip-hop scene, Blanks has often been one of the lone voices to write about Milwaukee hip-hop in a positive way.

Showing growth between each project is a difficult task for any artist. But for every crash-and-burn artist out there, there is another one waiting in the wings for a chance to shine, sharpening skills and abilities. NYC-by-way-of-Milwaukee emcee SigNif is a prime example of an artist who is working her tail off to improve, and the growth is immediately attention grabbing.
