The world is full of beautiful, unexpected collisions. Take for example the upcoming "After School's Out" benefit concert at The Hotel Foster on Friday, March 22. The show, organized by Alice Cooper bassist Chuck Garric and his better half - and OnMilwaukee.com contributor - Lindsay Garric was put together to raise money for Lloyd Barbee Montessori, a Milwaukee Public Schools Montessori program housed in the former Garden Homes School on 24th and Teutonia.

Prospective parents, prospective teachers, current Montessori families, the media and community members who want to learn more are invited to take a look as MPS - which operates the largest collection of public Montessori schools in the U.S. - hosts a Montessori Summit on Saturday, Oct. 6. MPS is making Montessori education public; accessible to everyone. MPS has been offering Montessori education since the mid-1970s. We are expanding this year by growing MacDowell at Juneau Campus and opening a new school in the old Tippecanoe building.

News that the Tippecanoe School building on Howard and Whitnall Avenues on the South Side is being proposed as the home to a new primary-age Montessori program, to help alleviate the strain on the Fernwood Montessori waiting list, is exciting.

After months of meetings and research and progress reports, the MPS Long Range Facilities Master Plan was released today with little fanfare. Among the recommendations are some school closures, relocations and other moves.
