It was suspected that some action items on facilities plan recommendations to close, move or alter some schools would be heard at a meeting next Thursday. That is true in some cases. But others have been moved up to another committee meeting on Tuesday. Public testimony will be heard at both meetings.

We got the news last week that for the second time, Milwaukee Public Schools has gotten a School Improvement Grant to help reform some low-performing schools. More SIG money may arrive at MPS to help fund other initiatives too -- or at least some of us hope. According to a new book by Laura Pappano, there are some great examples of successful turnarounds in American public schools.
