Blue in the Face returns to celebrate Shank birthday
In 2006, Peter Jest convinced the band to do a reunion gig at Shank Hall. Now, the band reunites again at the legendary venue as part of a series celebrating Shank's 20th anniversary.

Shank Hall sets lineup for 20th anniversary shows
Peter Jest, the proprietor at Shank Hall, 1434 N. Farwell Ave., is marking an anniversary today. "It was 20 years ago that I signed the papers to start operating Shank Hall," he says. "I'm really proud of that. I think it's hard to stay in any business for that long, and it's especially tough in the music business." In celebration of the club's anniversary, Jest has announced a list of shows for the upcoming months featuring a variety of local and national acts and a few band reunions.

City takes measures to alleviate "problem bars"
From the larger venues on Water Street to the tiny spots on residential corners, bars and taverns are an integral -- some might even go as far as to say indispensable -- part of Milwaukee's cultural identity. But, the picture is not always positive. At different times and in different neighborhoods, establishments can become what the city refers to as "problem taverns." The city has a brochure telling residents how to deal with them.
