The media covered the John Henson racial profiling story with fervor. This got me thinking: To what degree does the local media help form the perceptions that create racial profiling through endless crime scene-framed, fragmented disorder coverage? It's easy to blame the jewelry store employees, but what creates the perceptions in the first place? The local media, especially TV, should rethink how they cover crime and disorder.
