For a variety of reasons, I've been thinking about Front Street, which now seems so ironically named, fronting as it does onto nothing and serving as the ultimate definition of a Milwaukee "backstreet." In my mind, I see something much different that can be seen on the block today.

The smiley face. It's a universal symbol of happiness. At least it should be. But when you find one spray painted along Milwaukee's Riverwalk, it's meaning changes.

Jeremy Shamrowicz from Flux Design has a new piece on the Milwaukee Riverwalk. It was just installed today. It seems to ask question. Maybe we should think inside the box.

Hey Milwaukee, are ya feeling the love? In case you haven't noticed, the city has been receiving plenty of praise in recent weeks from Forbes magazine, which named it "The Capital of Water" and one of the nation's "Emerging Downtowns."
