Saturday Scorecard: Can they Pack get off the deck?

Vikings showdown puts McCarthy in the spotlight
The focus will be on the quarterbacks Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, and that's understandable. In addition to a referendum on Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers-Vikings game will provide information about Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. A victory will silence his critics. A loss or lackluster effort may fuel the debate about his acumen.

Which quarterback is No. 1? Favre leaves little doubt
Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre is going to turn 40 next week, and there can be no doubt that he is still, at his advanced age, one of the top quarterbacks in the National Football League. Sure, his Vikings are better than Aaron Rodgers' Packers. But part of that, a big part, is that Favre is better than Rodgers. It's not even close.

Green Bay Replay: Vikings 30, Packers 23
A whole lot of Packers fans watched Brett Favre perform on "Monday Night Football" and were overcome by waves of nostalgia. Decked out in Vikings purple and performing before a shrieking throng in the Metrodome, Favre shredded the Packers defense and led his team to a 30-23 victory that was far more convincing than the final score indicates.

Green Bay Replay: Packers 36, Rams 17
The final score screamed "rout." The final stats shouted "closer than it looked" and "closer than it should have been." None of that really matters now. Sure, the Packers needed to beat the Rams Sunday in St. Louis, especially after losing a home game to Cincinnati in Week 2. Now that the game is over, and the expected verdict was reached, everyone can focus on Favre-a-palooza.
