Recently, OnMilwaukee.com's Molly Snyder spent the morning shadowing Chef Karen Bell at Bavette La Boucherie, a butcher shop / cafe at 330 E. Menomonee St. She was surprised - and a little disappointed - by the lack of blood, guts and gore.

A golf course is a living thing, with insects, grasses and trees all affecting how it plays on a given day. All of those things, and a host of others, must be managed daily by that course's superintendent to make it playable for the golfer. It's a long day, with a lot of duties. I traded places with Brown Deer Golf Course superintendent Tim Wegner to get a better feel for what exactly he does, and I found out how hard it really is.

The OnMilwaukee.com editors have a history of hanging up their word-smithing for a few hours and experiencing a completely different type of work. We then write about the experience in this series, called Shift Switch. This weekend, I was given the chance to be an extra in the Milwaukee Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker."
