The United States Open returns to historic Merion Golf Club just outside Philadelphia after 32 years. It is the shortest Open layout in almost a decade and features past champions like Lee Trevino and Ben Hogan. Bobby Jones won two U.S. Amateurs there as well. Tiger Woods, the world's new, old, No. 1 golfer, hasn't won a Masters Tournament in nearly a decade. But, he enters this season's first major championship with two wins under his belt and he seems poised to jump start his pursuit of Jack Nicklasus' major record - all thanks to Madison's Steve Stricker.

Madison's Steve Stricker announced at the start of this golf season that he's going into sort of a semi-retirement at the age of 46. He cited his family, and a body that is breaking down after a lifetime of golf. It's an understandable move, but the game of golf is worse off for it.

As the shadows grew long across Medinah Country Club in the west suburbs of Chicago, the United States was slowly losing its grip on the 2012 Ryder Cup. Madison's Steve Stricker had an opportunity to extend the match to Tiger Woods in the final group, but Martin Kaymer beat him and Europe capped an incredible comeback to win 14 1/2 to 13 1/2.
