In support of last week's Downtown Dining Week, I decided to visit the Turkish restaurant Tulip, 360 E. Erie St., in hopes of discovering my new favorite Mediterranean eatery. I am in a serious and long-term love affair with hummus, so I couldn't resist a chance to eat a meal complementary to my favorite ethnic flavor.

I had been under the impression, proven false, that the Turkish restaurant, Tulip, had closed at some point. So I was surprised when I found it open in the Third Ward last week and decided to give it a try before theater.

Everyone has a restaurant they intend to check out, but never do. Or they went once and meant to go again, but for some reason, haven't.

For the second year in a row, Tulip, 364 E. Erie St., ran away with the title, taking nearly 40 percent of the votes. The 4-year-old restaurant offers a wide variety of lamb, chicken and beef entrees as well as seafood and pasta dishes.
