Seven time zones away, Jeff Donovan is still living the diamond life. The former Wauwatosa East three-sport athlete, who went on to rack up eye-popping numbers at UW-Whitewater in two sports, has finally boiled down his competitive juices, focused strictly on baseball in a country where the sport barely blips on the radar.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was down 18 points to Cabrini College with about 13 minutes left in the NCAA Division III championship game on Saturday night in Virginia, and turned to a freshman from Kenosha to start the rally. The Warhawks would win 63-60, their first national title since 1989.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball program won the NCAA Division III men's basketball national championship Saturday night with a 63-60 comeback victory over Cabrini College. The victory highlighted a weekend of NCAA championship appearances by athletes from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

This may be the week the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament gets started, but there are other NCAA championships being decided this weekend - and the state of Wisconsin is well represented. Teams from Wisconsin and UW-Whitewater are in different Final Fours while a swimmer from UWM is competing in the swimming championships.
The recently concluded Bejing Paralympic Games featured heavy local flavor, including several men's basketball players with UW-Whitewater ties.
