Dan Bieser, a high school principal turned artisan chocolate maker, is one of the more recent additions to the band of creative entrepreneurs showcasing their talents in the corridor of Lisbon Avenue between 35th and 33rd Streets, according to a Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service report. Over the past decade, artisans including bread bakers, potters, painters, poets and craftsmen have carved out their own community within the area.

The Milwaukee Common Council may have held over making a decision on the Milwaukee Streetcar until 2015 in yesterday morning's meeting, but it did approve a recommendation from the Community and Economic Development Committee to allocate $300,000 of Community Development Block Grant funding to the Milwaukee Promise initiative.

Community Pie was founded four years ago by Amy Peterson and Jessie Tobin, residents of the Martin Drive neighborhood. The group utilizes the facilities at the Urban Ecology Center, 4515 W. Lisbon Ave., twice a year to bake fruit pies to serve at a Wednesday at the Shell in Washington Park concert in the summer and at Winter Fest in late January. The slices of pie are free.

Inspired by last year's TypeFace project, Present Music went back into the same four neighborhoods and, working with schools, organizations and a senior center in the communities, developed new works based on their words and experiences. The results comprise an integral facet of Present Music's season finale, "Home Place," a musical and visual examination of what words and concepts like "home" and "shelter" mean on several levels.

Harley-Davidson donated $200,000 to Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity for its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, which focuses on the Washington Park area.
