Washington Park: Neighbors+pie=community building

Community Pie was founded four years ago by Amy Peterson and Jessie Tobin, residents of the Martin Drive neighborhood. The group utilizes the facilities at the Urban Ecology Center, 4515 W. Lisbon Ave., twice a year to bake fruit pies to serve at a Wednesday at the Shell in Washington Park concert in the summer and at Winter Fest in late January. The slices of pie are free.


"Home Place" explores the city and the concept of shelter

Inspired by last year's TypeFace project, Present Music went back into the same four neighborhoods and, working with schools, organizations and a senior center in the communities, developed new works based on their words and experiences. The results comprise an integral facet of Present Music's season finale, "Home Place," a musical and visual examination of what words and concepts like "home" and "shelter" mean on several levels.


Chester French plays free show Thursday

In spring we told you that Chester French, the Massachusetts-based band that features Milwaukee-area native D.A. Wallach, was in town recording its new CD at Wauwatosa's Burst HQ studios. Now, the band will play a free show Thursday night at Washington Park's bandshell.
