Pourman's, the first bar in Milwaukee where patrons can tap their own beers, recently opened on Water Street in the former Fitzgibbons' Pub, 1127 N. Water St. Owner Ben Hebl says he was first introduced to table beer tappers while living in the Czech Republic where he played basketball for two years in a European league.

After 15 years of owning the bar, Dan Fitzgibbons says he will close Water Street's Fitzgibbons Pub sometime before Nov. 30.

In recent years a lot of great restaurants have sprung up in the area, but Water Street is still one of the best places to go after work or play to - excuse the pun - wet your whistle.

Rogues Gallery is two floors of drinking space and art that opened in December 2011. Owner Nate Showers built the bar around a concept from one of his 10 spiral notebooks of bar ideas - and a set of lights from Iowa.

Rosie's has staying power. Rosie's comfortable feel has made it the place to meet up with friends before a night on the town for 29 years. "Part of the reason we wanted to keep things 'Rosie's' is that everything else changes," says Darrell Sanderson, who took over the bar with two friends in 1998.
