Wisconsin native's book celebrates historic theaters
You've been inside The Pabst Theater and you know what a treasure it is. But it's just one of many lovely, historic opera houses that survive in Wisconsin. If you don't have time to get in the car and seek out the rest, check out "Encore! The Renaissance of Wisconsin Opera Houses," a lavishly illustrated book by Brian Leahy Doyle and photographer Mark Fay.

Allen's update is a new testament for Badger foodies
In 1981, Harva Hachten published "The Flavor of Wisconsin: An Informal History of Food and Eating in the Badger State," charting the culinary history and landmarks of Wisconsin. More than 20 years later, Wisconsin Historical Society Press asked for an update and paired respected food expert Terese Allen with Hachten to create the new version.

Povletich's book takes unique look at Braves history
Bill Povletich is likely familiar to OnMilwaukee.com readers for his film about Hank Aaron's first pro season in Wisconsin, "Henry Aaron's Summer Up North." His book "Milwaukee Braves: Heroes and Heartbreak" is an eye-catchingly illustrated walk through the years the Braves spent in Milwaukee -- with a focus on the civic and financial effects of the team's arrival and departure.
