This afternoon, the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) announced the nominees for its 35th annual WAMI Awards. The show itself will be held at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) on Sunday, April 19 at Turner Hall Ballroom, with a nominee celebration several weeks before on Sunday, March 29 at Papa's Social Club.

Milwaukee's Altered Five is a quintet that knows a few a things about the blues -- a genre that, despite its name, often makes people feel good thanks to its soulful vibe. Over the last year, the band often put a little groove to its step when treading familiar turf with its own soulful, lyrical twist, especially on its latest album, "Cryin' Mercy."

Milwaukee's Altered Five knows that blues is about the vibe and for the group's members - bassist Mark Solveson, singer Jeff "JT" Taylor, keyboardist Ray Tevich, drummer Scott Schroedl and guitarist Jeff Schroedl - that feeling is a mix of traditional blues with a healthy dose of R&B and other styles. The band officially releases its second CD with a gig this week.
