The 2015-16 theater season in Milwaukee is just underway and looking ahead there is promise of outstanding productions that will stimulate audiences to laugh, think and weep.It's an appropriate time to look back at the 2014-15 season that provided so much interesting theater. Milwaukee is fortunate to have so many theater companies, both old favorites and new and bold groups. We have a wealth of great theater that is abundant for a city our size.

The 2013-14 theater season has closed, and it's on to the wonderful summer of productions in Spring Green and Door County. Before hitting the road, I wanted to talk about a season that gave us so much wonderful theater.

Great theater is about telling a story, and it's hard to find a much cooler story than "An Iliad," the epic poem by Homer. A retelling of that poem is the latest entry in the Milwaukee Rep season, and it's a performance that will leave you breathless.

It is a story that almost everybody knows, but The Rep's "An Iliad" seeks to tell it like few have seen before. It's a bold show, one that requires a great actor, a great musician and - in this case - a whole new musical score. OnMilwaukee.com got a chance to talk to the two people behind essentially a whole new character, sound designer Josh Schmidt and cellist Alicia Storin, about creating the score and why a story like "An Iliad" has endured.
