Terrorism is what it is - an event that causes fear and the terror that comes with knowing how vulnerable we really are to similar acts claiming more lives in the future. When national and international news outlets cover these attacks, it shows their programming nature.

The major American pro sports leagues are getting ready for its first active, male athletes to come out. And when this happens there's going to be a lot of shouting about progress and how far we have come, but that's a little overwrought. Real progress will be when a gay professional athlete is only concerned about his performance on the field and the rest of us cheer or boo for the way he plays.

One thing about the debate over gun control is that Milwaukee's two big law enforcement officers are becoming national spokesmen. Police chief Edward Flynn is slated to appear on "Anderson Cooper 360" tonight on CNN at 8 p.m. Flynn thus joins Sheriff David A. Clarke who has enjoyed some national fame recently.

On a day filled with the sad news of a fatal school shooting in Ohio and a tragic Wauwatosa train accident that left an 11-year-old dead, I did hear one uplifting story Monday. Last week, Wisconsin's Matt Razink, who lost part of his arm in a work accident, was on Anderson Cooper's eponymous TV show to get a prosthetic arm that was handmade for him by Advanced Arm Dynamics.
