Pulitzer-prize winning poet Mary Oliver received an honorary degree at Marquette University at 4 p.m. this afternoon and proceeded to give a 50-minute poetry reading, a question-and-answer session and a book signing.

Caley Vickerman's Guerrilla Haiku Movement is on a 10-city tour and will stop in Milwaukee on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. in Veteran's Park. The event will get groups of people into 10 Milwaukee neighborhoods to write haiku with chalk on sidewalks.

The OnMilwaukee.com Milwaukee Poetry Contest returns this fall with more prizes and a special event. The contest invites writers to submit one poem about Milwaukee, or a poem simply containing the word "Milwaukee." The contest launches on Monday, Sept. 13.
