As we prepare to discard the calendar of a tumultuous and often nasty 2012 in Wisconsin, it's time to launch into 2013 with a clean slate and try to begin the year with no grudges and a spirit of compromise. Here's one man's Milwaukee wish list for Santa.

Parents have lots of different opinions on how to talk to kids about Santa. Personally, I was prepared for a variety of reactions when my kids learned that Santa was a myth, but as usual, they surprised me.

Snowland, located inside the lobby at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells, is open throughout the month of December and stuffed with holiday entertainment including visits from Santa, a real gingerbread house and indoor snow.

I've done it. When my kids acted like jerks, I suggested that they were going to get bricks and onions in their stockings. And you know what? It worked. It stopped them in mid-meltdown.

This week's Social Circle question got more responses than any other question to date. Apparently, we feel strongly about whether or not it's a lie to tell kids that there is a Santa Claus.

Most kids who celebrate Christmas like the concept of Santa. After all, he's a smiling Grandpa-looking guy who dumps toys under twinkly trees. But for many kids, actually getting up close and personal with a mall Santa is a terrifying experience.

This is a story about Santa. Not the Santa, but a Santa. This is not the Santa who lives in the North Pole and ate the cookies you left out when you were a kid. No, this is a different Santa. A Santa eating a roast beef sandwich from the food court on his lunch break.

Tonight, I'm told, St. Nick is flying over Brew City, filling shoes or stockings with heavenly edibles. As a kid, I wished my family celebrated St. Nick because most of my classmates did, but apparently, my Italian and Russian ancestors didn't dig ol' Nick.
