Obama rode a perfect storm into history
A barrage of irrepressible forces propelled Democrat Barack Obama's historic presidential victory over Republican John McCain, according to Craig Peterson, who cut his "political teeth" in Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign and has served as a political advisor for many conservative campaigns over the years.

Election reflections
Now that the 2008 presidential election is officially in the books, America can begin its Wednesday morning quarterbacking. I'm personally ready start thinking about other things -- like, if it will snow this weekend -- but before I move on, I have a few closing reflections on this most historic of elections.

Gentlemens' bets for tonight's election returns
You've cast your vote. Now all you can do is sit back and watch the results roll in, right? Or could you place some action on the winners and losers.

The pageantry of election day
I really enjoy voting. I know that my individual vote is insignificant, and even had I been a Floridian in 2000, it wouldn't have mattered. But unlike jury duty, mowing the lawn on the other side of the sidewalk or plugging parking meters, voting is the one civic duty that still fires me up.

McCain's character re-emerges in final days of race

Talking politics with Channel 12's Mike Gousha
Like an accountant during tax season, a snow plow driver after a blizzard or a retail store manager the day after Thanksgiving, Gousha -- who is a special contributing anchor / reporter at Channel 12, where he hosts "UPFRONT with Mike Gousha," and a Distinguished Fellow in Law and Public Policy at Marquette University Law School -- has been busy covering the upcoming election.

Grading the candidates' Web sites: 2008
Just like in the last election, the local candidates you can vote for in the Milwaukee area have all but ignored their Web presences. Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, obviously, took their sites very seriously. But in congressional and state assembly races, well, it's not so good.

Whole hog poll fog
I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little too wrapped up in next Tuesday's election. I'm spending waaaay too much time on the Web sites of CNN.com and the super-detailed fivethirtyeight.com. When I get home from work, I'm watching utterly too much cable news and commentary.

Are there still undecided voters?
With a week and half until the election, I'm wondering how anyone could still be on the fence as to who they plan to vote for. I mean, what don't you know by now?

Getting out the early vote
I'm rarely ahead of the pack on fashion trends, but I'm the first person I know to have donned the coveted "I Voted' sticker this election season. That's because on Friday, I decided to vote via absentee ballot.
