Joshua Zimmerman isn't a full-time inventor, but that's about to change. The 30-year-old middle school science teacher has raised almost $100,000 on Kickstarter project, the "Folding USB Solar Cell." With 15 days left, the Milwaukee history buff has well surpassed his $5,000 goal to build an inexpensive, easy-to-use, practical, every-day solar USB system.

Known for their tin can microphone, shiny tuba, eclectic instrumentation--which ranges from a typewriter to a customized whirring vibraphone--and, most importantly, lead singer Daniel Bullock's thoughtful, incisive lyrics. The Scarring Party's songs have roots in the early days of radio jazz, but the tone is more foreboding, as if one was being stalked by guard dogs in a French walled city while on the way to a burlesque show in Hell. Equal parts exciting, unnerving, and devious.

Premium denim Kickstarter project continues to grow

Gustin is a high-end denim brand from the birthplace of blue jeans, San Francisco. For the past six years, its selvedge jeans sat on the shelves of boutique shops, selling for $205. Now, thanks to Kickstarter, the crowd-sourced funding tool, Gustin will sell the very same jeans, direct to customers, for its wholesale price of $81, shipped. The way it's all unraveled is impressive.
