Saturday Scorecard: Can they Pack get off the deck?
After losing a disappointing game last week in Tampa, the Packers face a virtual must-win contest against Dallas. The key to success, as always, will be the protection that the offensive line affords quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has been sacked 37 times this season. If Green Bay loses, will another grounds crew worker be fired? Stay tuned.

Vikings showdown puts McCarthy in the spotlight
The focus will be on the quarterbacks Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, and that's understandable. In addition to a referendum on Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers-Vikings game will provide information about Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. A victory will silence his critics. A loss or lackluster effort may fuel the debate about his acumen.

Which quarterback is No. 1? Favre leaves little doubt
Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre is going to turn 40 next week, and there can be no doubt that he is still, at his advanced age, one of the top quarterbacks in the National Football League. Sure, his Vikings are better than Aaron Rodgers' Packers. But part of that, a big part, is that Favre is better than Rodgers. It's not even close.

Green Bay Replay: Vikings 30, Packers 23
A whole lot of Packers fans watched Brett Favre perform on "Monday Night Football" and were overcome by waves of nostalgia. Decked out in Vikings purple and performing before a shrieking throng in the Metrodome, Favre shredded the Packers defense and led his team to a 30-23 victory that was far more convincing than the final score indicates.

Green Bay Replay: Packers 36, Rams 17
The final score screamed "rout." The final stats shouted "closer than it looked" and "closer than it should have been." None of that really matters now. Sure, the Packers needed to beat the Rams Sunday in St. Louis, especially after losing a home game to Cincinnati in Week 2. Now that the game is over, and the expected verdict was reached, everyone can focus on Favre-a-palooza.

Green Bay Replay: Bengals 31, Packers 24
The last-second victory over Chicago in the season opener could have been a wakeup call for the Packers. Apparently, it wasn't. The Packers' upset loss to Cincinnati was marked by sloppy execution, penalties, injuries and -- perhaps -- a sense of overconfidence. With their offensive line jumbled by injury and ineptitude, the Packers will scramble to pick up the pieces before traveling to St. Louis next Sunday.

ESPN's Bill Simmons picks Packers to win it all
Dave Begel did it earlier this week. Today, my favorite national sports guy, Bill Simmons, has done it too. Simmons, in a 5,000-word column on ESPN.com, picks the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl.

Saturday Scorecard: A perplexing game of "what if?"
Sports fans love to argue. Would the '75 Reds have beaten the '27 Yankees? Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? Most of the time, concrete statistics and on-field results bolster the debate. Sometimes, though, it's fun to delve into the hypothetical and ask "What if?" What if Brett Favre hadn't thrown that interception to set up Lawrence Tynes' game-winning field goal in the NFC Championship Game?

Green Bay Replay: Packers 31, Lions 21
The Packers capped a disappointing season with a nerve-wracking, tougher-than-it-needed-to-be victory over the horrendous Detroit Lions. The memory of the game will fade quickly as Green Bay takes steps to improve on its 6-10 record.

Green Bay Replay: Saints 51, Packers 29
The Packers shuffled into New Orleans, site of their most recent Super Bowl victory, with confidence and momentum. In what may have been a funeral for their playoff hopes, the Saints stomped them into submission.
