Could this guy be Wisconsin's next governor?
There's another person -- not Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (who is expected to announce his decision to enter next year's race this week) -- considering running for Wisconsin governor as a Democrat.

Kudos to Tom Barrett and the M7 Water Council for at least discussing a way to discount water for businesses looking to come to Milwaukee.

Barrett not likely to run for governor
Democratic insiders believe Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will decide not to launch a campaign to be Wisconsin's next governor, and some say Gov. Jim Doyle is "shopping" for another candidate to challenge Barbara Lawton for the party's nomination.

Barrett's MPS proposal brings drama
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has never been known for high drama. The genial, popular Barrett has run a steady-as-she-goes administration that has rarely created exciting political theater. But the curtain may have gone up on a performance that has gotten some brutal reviews from critics.

It's decision time for Barrett
You can hardly blame Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett if he hasn't been completely focused on the 2010 governor's race. The main question for Barrett is whether he wants to put himself through what is likely to be a contentious Democratic primary and a brutal general election.

Does Barrett2010.com mean Milwaukee Mayor is in the Governor's race?
Milwaukee's next mayoral election isn't until 2012, so Barrett2010.com must mean that Tom Barrett is running for another office next year. Right?

Can private sector ideas fix MPS?
Should the mayor be allowed to take over MPS? If so, what would the impact be? How have mayoral takeovers of public schools worked in other cities? What kinds of new ideas from the private sector could be replicated to help MPS improve its results?

Zielinski, Barrett clash over the classroom
Milwaukee Ald. Tony Zielinski got the brush off from Mayor Tom Barrett after Zielinski's challenge to debate the mayor's plan to take over running the Milwaukee Public School system. The mayor wants the authority to appoint the currently elected school board and the superintendent, as well.

Taking schools to school
Proponents and opponents of changing the way the Milwaukee Public Schools are run were lining up in droves this week as some public events were held to draw attention to a plan by Gov. Jim Doyle and Mayor Tom Barrett to allow the mayor to oversee the schools.

Navigating the school board controversy
As a new MPS parent, trying to figure out the basics of starting school is hard enough. Staying on top of the misinformation and lack on information flying around at the moment about Wisconsin's largest school district seems nearly impossible without making a full-time job of it.

Of course Milwaukee TV went live with Favre
If I was back in my old newspaper job, I'd have been taking phone calls over the past two days from viewers of the network newscasts on Channels 4, 12 and 58, complaining about how their daily habit was disrupted by live coverage of Brett Favre's first public appearance as a Viking. There are only two big news stories, as far as Milwaukee TV is concerned, the weather and the Green Bay Packers.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
