The pageantry of election day
I really enjoy voting. I know that my individual vote is insignificant, and even had I been a Floridian in 2000, it wouldn't have mattered. But unlike jury duty, mowing the lawn on the other side of the sidewalk or plugging parking meters, voting is the one civic duty that still fires me up.

Observations from the political winds
It's been a somewhat lackluster spring election in the City of Milwaukee -- except maybe for an open aldermanic seat on the East Side and the Ald. Michael McGee vote -- as incumbents are facing relatively weak opponents who got late starts. But there have been some interesting developments.

The best court money can buy
Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, if you feel like taking a long, hot, soapy bath after the April 3 Supreme Court justice race in Wisconsin, it’s completely understandable. From any vantage point, it was a dirty, dirty deal.

12 years ago today …
Twelve years ago today, April 4, 1995, voters across the state went to the polls and rejected the creation of a sports lottery. By a 2-1 margin voters said no to this creative and somewhat tax-free approach to building the Milwaukee Brewers a new ballpark.

Low voter turnout could be candidates’ fault
Bemoaning low voter turnout is in season, but maybe this season’s plague of unused ballots might be the fault of the candidates.
