Nothing like decorating for Christmas in short sleeves
Watching me decorate for the holidays is nothing like watching Chevy Chase do it on the big screen. I'm a fan of minimalism and I usually procrastinate. But with the sunshine and the unseasonably warm temps, you bet I was out there yesterday putting up the lights!

Sunday Sound-off: Is Milwaukee's cool summer weather normal?
Many Milwaukeeans are ticked about the chilly June temperatures. It's a popular topic of discussion and many Milwaukeeans claim it's unusually cold for early-to-mid June. But is it? Sound-off, Milwaukee, about the city's 50- and 60-degree start to summer.

Push summer back a month
It makes sense, really. Even though we all think summer runs from June through August, that's not particularly accurate here in the upper Midwest. With temperatures hovering in the low 60s this week -- and it's already June 9 -- it doesn't really feel very summery, does it?

Unannounced cancellation leaves us out in the cold
Last month, I wrote about baffling customer service in this blog. This week, I again experienced terrible customer service worthy of comment. Let's hope one local hospital is better at health care than it is at customer care.

Lands' End says moms love to talk weather
Recently, I received a press release from Lands' End about its winter outerwear. However, it wasn't the wool pea coats or the washable wool gloves that got my attention. Instead, it was the statistic in the first paragraph of the letter sent with the press kit that made me say, "Wow."

Don't let weather keep you from the fun at Festa
Poor Festa. Sure, it's the third week in July, so we can expect heat. And sure, with the heat comes the threat of thunderstorms, but can this festival catch a break?

Severe weather brings out the little kid in me
All these crazy storms this weekend brought me back to about 10 years old. A time when "Waukesha, Ozaukee and Dodge" only meant one thing: that a storm was brewing.

OK, this weather is getting really weird
I'm no meteorologist. I'm just a guy watching the weirdest Milwaukee winter unfold since -- well, since as long as I can remember.

Why so much weather on local TV news?
The ongoing, repetitive and exhaustively comprehensive coverage of daily weather on local TV news has become such a throw-back, waste of time, I'm losing my patience a little more each and every night.

Is it canceled or cancelled?
If a local news station is going to air cancellations all night at least spell the word “canceled” correctly or at least consistently.

Monday morning musings
My fingers are still thawing out at my keyboard, so it's taking me longer to write this than it should. But after a frigid, Super Bowl weekend, here are some of the ideas swirling in my pre-caffeinated brain.

Doyle accepts post-Katrina emergency plan
Many of us were shocked at the apparent lack of preparedness and lack of communication between local and state authorities after Hurricane Katrina. Now we have been left wondering, "Is Milwaukee prepared for a disaster of a similar magnitude?"

Cold, dark nights spell joy for stargazers
Winter nights can be bitter cold, but the chilliest nights usually offer the best viewing of the celestial sky. Stars and planets dance across the black dome of the sky and give us a front row seat to the workings of the solar system and the universe.
